I may show my ignorance here, but here goes. ;D I work for an oil/gas company, and allot of our roads are covered with this stuff. I think the white part is some type of quartzite, but would like to know what the other is. They gray part is kinda soft (scratches with a nail) I ground on a piece of it for a while, and it seems like it would take a decent polish. Same rock, two pics, one wet, one dry.

There's plenty of rocks in louisiana, just none "from" here ;D
I think the trade name of these are Arkansas rocks, no not the one they form into knife sharpeners, thats Arkansas stone.

Probably a sandstone or silt stone- it fractures under pressure- then Quartz, or calcite fills in the cracks- I just tumbled on like that- Quartz took a great shine- the black area (sandstone) was DUll Dull DULL!

Looks like the stuff we have all over here. West side of the cascades all the way to the ocean. Granite with quartz.

Norocksinlouisiana I'm From Southwest Louisiana .. Have Seen A Lot Of What Your Showing In Oil Patch .. It Is Called Limestone It Comes In Gray , White , Black An Striped All The Above In One Rock.. The Oil Patch Uses It Because As Thay Run Over It , It Kinda Brakes Up An Forms A FINE Hard Road Bace , And Sets Like Cement ... I Have Seen It Come In To The Port Of Lake Charles , Louisiana By Barge And Ship .. It Is Trucked From There To Where Ever It Is Bought ... Maybe This Will Help Somewhat .. Just Pokers 2 Cents..
