Hello everyone, so I need some help with these. When I get home tonight I'll add a couple of pictures, but for now I guess you have to use your imagination, I found some rocks around my building that are light to dark purple almost black sometimes, not clear like quartz, but do shine when wet. The ones I have been gathering have streaks and swirls of light green in them. I just took 5 or 6 out of the tumbler, and after the first rough grind, they look really nice. I found them in a decorative rockbed around the building I work in. All the stone look to be the same kind, just small numbers have the green streaks. I would guess it's some kind of locally quarried decorative stone they bought in bulk, but have no clue what it is. If anyone has seen anything like this, do you have any ideas or know what is common in the Raleigh, NC area? Like I said, I'll add some before and after pics once I am home. Thank you

Sorry about that, had a busy week and forgot to post the pics. Here is the best I could get. The piece on the right is the one I was talking about. The one on the left is something similar, but not sure what. I think they may be some kind of Schist, but not sure. Sorry about the bad pic. I'm still learning how to do close ups on my camera.

Can't tell you what it is, cause iduno ;D This stuff is everwhere on roads and around buildings in Louisiana. They bring it in down here via rail-car, I wish I knew where from

Ya, it very hard to tell. Thanks for posting a photo though. Ask again when you can get a better close up.

Yeah, sorry about that, still learning how to use the macro function on my camera. I'll try to post up some better ones soon. I'll also find a better peice to photo, one with more detail. Whatever it is, I just finished my 120/220 grind on it and it's looking really good. Hopefully it will take polish well, might be an interesting looking stone.

Hmm, I looked it up in my rock book... looks like... Flip-flop-ite! (With ducky-ite inclusions) Steve

;D Hah, yeah that Flip-flop-ite seems a little bit soft, I don't think it's going to tumble very well.
On a side note, I just put a couple of pieces of that same stuff into the 500 grit. I meant to photograph it before I put them in but forgot. After this round I'll take some pics and give a good before and after. After a 60/90 and 120/220, it looks like something I have seen on here before, but can't find a picture. Maybe someone can ID it after my next pictures?

I think I have it. After doing a lot of googling and so forth, I have a feeling that it is Schist, with streaks or inclusions of epidote. I have also been finding pieces of the Schist with quartz, as well as some good pieces of Unakite. After some research, it seems that the Unakite and Schist are probably found together, hence the reason I am finding both.

Okay, so I finally learned how to use the macro's on my camera. Here are a couple of better shots. The first one shows 4 different looking peices that came from the same place. Again, my guess is they are some kind of Schist with green epidote, maybe a little pink feldspar on one, and some bits of white quartz. Could anyone tell me for sure what they are? Second just show some of the nice streaking they have. Clickable
