Hello, I'm new here. I have some rocks I bought in Greece a couple of years back and I have no idea what they are. Here are the pictures. I'm glad I found these forums. I've been looking all over the internet and there really isn't much out there. There are lots of them... I'm sorry. :/ - Rock 1 - Rock 1 (other side) - Rock 2 - Rock 2 (other side) - Rock 3 - Rock 4 - Rock 5 - Rock 5 (other side) - Rock 6 - Rock 6 (other side) - Rock 7 - Rock 8 - Rock 8 (other side) - Rocks 9 & 10 Thank you very much for any help. Nichole

Hi Nichole, welcome to our little place on the net. Some of these look like they may be quartzite. Some of them are very interesting looking and I would like to know what they are myself. You can post the photos directly here on the message instead of just the links to the photos. Underneath each of your photos in your photobucket album there are 3 boxes, URL, tag, and img. All you have to do is highlight the img box and copy/paste it into your message. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here who may be able to help you with the ID's of your rocks. This is THE rockhounding website on the net. The people here are great people and there is a wealth of information posted throughout the different sections, so stick around and jump into the obsession along with the rest of us.

Thanks for the warm welcome, stoner. I stuck the pictures in the message, is that better? The purple one kind of looks like the pictures of sugilite I've seen on the internet but I'm not sure. Hmm.

rock 1 could be chrysoprase?
rock 2 might be sardonyx?
rocks 9 & 10 look like they might be dyed.

Hi There,
#1 looks like larimar #5 looks like tiger eye #6 I would agree with you, looks like sugilite #7 maybe marble or onyx #8 looks like orange carnelian #9 and #10 I agree with wades the stones look like they have been dyed. Does #3 or #4 have little sparkles in them? I think 4 might be quartz Well, those are some nice rocks you picked up in Greece. Were you in Athens? I went to Greece in 1990 and took a ferry to Santorini, was in Athens before Santorini and I visited the huge flea market that happens on Saturdays and Sundays, it was incredible.

I would agree, the frist one is a chalcedony, as there is a green chlacedony that comes from Turkey that very similar to that piece, and ive seen some Green opal from Greece. BUt i would swing to the chalcedony on that, its definitly not Larimar though. Doesnt show the the needle structure which is what pectolite(larimar) will show.
I with the rest of the IDs as well, #5 cold be wood though, or tiger eye. If its not flashy in person i would lean to the Petrified wood site.
Rock #2 is very cool, i wonder if its a cut bead/marble, or naturally round like that?

Yeah I was in Athens in 2004. I saw a couple of basketball games in the Olympics and a couple of Fencing matches. I also went to Santorini and it was great. People are really friendly there. More so than in Athens. I actually got the rocks in a little store in Crete. #4 has little sparkles in it, but #3 doesn't. I agree that #5 looks like tiger eye because it's flashy in person. I already have a Green Chalcedony and it kind of looks like the first one. But I've seen pictures of Chrysoprase and it looks like it too. :/ Thanks for the help!
