Hello all, I keep finding these stones on the beach and I was wondering what they were - they tend to take a really good polish. They are usually brownish coloured with white patches of discolouration. Inside seems to be a waxy grey or white colour - any ideas? Top view and underside view photos are below: The waxiness doesn't come out in the photos very well. Hope someone can help. Just had a look on the web and it looks a bit like chert?

That's what I was going to say. I've a couple peices that look just like the darker stone. I think they may be a flint or chert of some kind. I've run quite a bit of it through the tumbler and it does polish up nicely.

Looks like a lot of stuff around here. Chert nodules that grade into flint, probably.

I'll vote for flint.
