Found a rock today that was unlike anything else in the area. It has layers of gold and lime green colors and a little streak of red through it. It's in 3 pieces and the little piece you see propping up the bigger one has the red layer exposed. From the back it looked like something I wouldn't have given a second glance. One of the pieces was turned so I noticed the colors I haven't tried scratching it but it seems pretty hard, like it's silicified or something? I'll post a pic when I cut it. Does anyone recognize this? Wet Thanks!

No but it sure shows you can't judge a rock by it's cover....MrP

If it's hard, Id guess it's some form of banded quartzite, if soft, maybe something in the travertine/marble group of rocks....mel
