Here's another cross done in Copper. 18g round, Half hard for the main wires and 24g round Half Hard for the bindings. I'm pretty happy w/this one. The cross is set nice and tight... not even a wiggle. The half hard wire seems to make for a tighter hold. Hope you all aren't tired of these yet! front: back: side: Thanks for lookin' Dan

I love mine....and bought another smaller pair to boot! lol...I use them for all kinds of things...like bending strands of wrapped wire into a shape I desire.

hehe... You don't miss a thing do you, Nancy? Yeah... the bail has some hickeys and the wires aren't even. I'll have to file down the nicks with an emery board. I'm ordering some wire today so I'll look into getting a pair of bail pliers.. Thanks!! Oh.. BTW. The Pet Wood is collected in the Brazos River. I marked up some slabs yesterday and will cut 'em up this week. I need to cut more slabs but the saw needs cleaning first. Trying to get 'em done as quickly as possible... Dan

The way the copper outlines, it looks very smart. Well done.

Wow, Dan, what a great combination, the wood+copper! Tired? Not a chance!
One question: is that copper wearable, does it not oxidate?

Thanks guys!
Adrian, the copper will tarnish... I'm really just practicing with it but I've read that you can coat it with laquer to keep it from oxidizing. I might do that to this piece because I like the way it turned out. My wife doesn't like the copper so much but I think it looks great against to wood!
Thanks again, Ddan

Dan if you get some of the copper craft wire it shouldn't tarnish - I have some and it's still beautiful - think it's called artistic wire or something like that

Gee Dan, I don't know...am I tired yet of looking at beautiful artistry? Hmmm...guess I'll have to ponder that over the next many pictures you post of your incredible work. Now I have a crazy question for you. It's obvious you have the ability to cut and shape intriguing figurations. So, have you ever tried cutting a gingerbread person shape--sort of the top of your cross as the head, then the arms, and then an angled set of legs instead of just the one piece you shape for the cross? Looking at this pet wood in copper I can visualize a gingerbread person that would just be perfect on my Christmas tree or as a Holiday pendant. Keep on posting pix. We'll let you know if we ever reach the point of "enough, already". Lady B

Dan you can also use the shaft of a screwdriver for the bails -they're a nice size -
BTW I really like your crosses - beautiful job

Dan that's just simply beautiful! I've got a box of different sized "round things" to use for the bail. Lots of times I find it easier to leave whatever I'm using in place while binding the bail to keep it's shape. Just an alternative if you don't have the bail pliers.

Thanks for the link to your tutorial, Dan. It will be a while before I am up to cutting anything like that but I've saved the file for that future someday.
Hey, are those Jingle Bells I hear? ;D

Beautiful Dan! Great wood, love the copper. I work in copper a lot and really like it. I cut up a few crosses a couple of weeks ago that are now in tumble. Had some jade slabs from my CO trip, and was cutting, and it cracked at the very end! ARRRG-same thing happened with rose quartz. I'm learning to be VERY gentle!
