I am interested in working with wire. I am a little confused on the difference between wire wrap and wire sculpting. Looks the same to me , but I am a greenhorn here. If somebody will help me out here it would be appreciated. Thanx

I'm sure it's a matter of opinion... but my take is that a wire wrap is mostly functional with a look good quality, where as a wire sculpture would be much more fancy and intricate. It's like the difference between a nice clay pot and a fancy clay pot painted and engraved... does that make sense? Both are pretty, but one is much fancier and artsy. Just my take on it.

Wire wrapping uses the design of the wrap to hold the stone, wire sculpture (as in Preston Reuther's designs) start with a basic holding wrap that secures the stone then the wires are sculpted or shaped around it with lots of swirls and loops.

My understanding is the main principle of a wrap is the side binding walls that frame the stone in. A sculpture attaches a stone to the piece using other means - whether it's across the front of the stone or other way.
