type of wire used for wrapping? I perfer silver and something easy to work with but strong enough to hold.
I've never done wrapping before and would like to try my hand at it.

Hi Stacey - Welcome to the board.
Wire is generally sold by gauge and comes in square, round and half round. It's also sold in diff. hardness; dead soft, half hard & full-hard. Most places sell gold filled, gold plated, sterling silver, & copper but you can also find rolled gold, argentium silver, brass, etc...
Most basic wire wraps consist of three or four main wires, usually 18 or 20 gauge (sometimes smaller) and the wrapping wire is normally a half round smaller gauge wire, 21 or 22 gauge.
For the most part it's best for a beginner to use cheap wire like copper. You can learn with sterling but it gets expensive. Also, I think that square main wire is best to use for a beginner because it easier to line up and wrap.

I used colored artistic wire to start with but the copper works fine too. Definitely get something like that so you can practice with your tools. Be sure to get tools that are smooth jawed too.

You can get copper wire from www.brandywinejewelrysupply.com/ . I'd get 21 gauge square (soft) and the same in half round. Also get 18 gauge half round for binding your wires at the top. Get cabs that are at least 22 x 30...smaller cabs are harder for newbies. Have fun!
