Usually I do a decent job on the bottom and screw up the top. This is the best top I've ever done, but I screwed up the bottom. Will the twain ever meet? One thing I've learned is that this dead soft wire will scratch if you sneeze on it. Gonna buy half hard next time. The cab I made from white agate from Susan I think. Don't know what it's called. I wish I didn't have to agree with you, Curt, but honesty is much better than empty flattery. The bottom doesn't compliment your cab. The top, however...OH! Now THAT is gorgeous! So now you know how to do an exquisite top and you know what you don't want to do for the bottom. You are on a wonderful learning curve. You will succeed, Curt, because the passion is in you and you are letting it work its way into the wires.
Thank you for sharing a piece that isn't quite perfect. Your openness is much appreciated by those of us who are still too timid to even give it a try!

I hope you remember how you did the top Do that over and over and you have no problems from now on. Next one do upside down for the bottom and rightside up for the top! Easy squeezy Amazing! T

Beautiful stone! Hey, if you want half hard...all you have to do is twist it. That is what I do. Also, you can use half hard for the out side wires and soft on the inside. I do that too. Holds the stone better and gives you some nice soft wire to play with at the top. Yeppers...it will come together and you are doing what it takes. PRACTICE! Way to go!

Thanks Susan, nice to put a name with the stone. :-)
You're so right Kate. I put these pics up so maybe people will have pity on me and tell me what's wrong, what's right, and what to do about it. Thanks for your comments!
Thanks for the tips Nancy!
Thank you everyone for your comments!

You did a great job on that one. A little hint, only use the pliers for the bindings. With soft wire, you can use your fingers to bend it, hence no marks or squeezys. If you go to half hard, it will be stiffer and you will use the plier thingys and make more marks. Stick to the soft and use your fingers. Try it, you'll like it!! Great Job!! Tonja
