This is a rock one of my friends brought me from the Queen Charlotte Islands. I didn't polish it or anything because I think it's absolutely perfect the way the ocean designed it. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm guessing that it is a chalcedony. It looks like caramel! I wrapped it in acrylic-coated copper. (sorry no backside photos, I'll try and get one later!)

Wow, AWESOME wrap! And you're from Terrace, not too far from here. Pine mushrooms are pretty big there, you a picker too by any chance? Rob

Nice wrap Shelby. The stone is great, I can see why you left it alone. I have to ask, did you buy the Copper wire with the Acrylic coating? Or do you coat it your self? Thanks, Dan

Thanks gang! Yup LCARS, just a wee bit north of ya...ha, damn mountains get in the way. :-) Nope, I don't pick mushrooms. They're always at their peak at the same time as bear activity. My friends say I'm waaaaaaay too silly when it comes to my fear of bears, but dang. We have one who has become habituated to the garbage on our street, which means he'll end up getting shot, but I watched him the other night in our front yard. He was just sitting there staring at the house. He's huge (and beautiful). I don't want to risk running into one of his siblings in the bush.
Hi Dan, I use Artistic Wire which has that coating. I keep meaning to try Future wax that Nancy (I think it was Nancy?) mentioned, but haven't seen it in any of the stores here...I'm wondering if there's another brand that might work. I did buy a can of polyurethane spray paint. I might try that on some of the bronze and copper I have that isn't coated. I love the look of the patina, but I hate the freaking green stains they leave behind on my skin.)
Randy - it even feels like hardened caramel. Really neat texture. If the person who brought it to me didn't have a PhD in geology, I'd have assumed it was something man-made that just got tumbled by the ocean!
Thanks Nancy - notice that I took your advice on the wrap for the ends of the leather, by the clasp. Works great!

That is one cool stone, and the copper wrap you did really compliments it nicely, great work there Shelby! Wow, AWESOME wrap! And you're from Terrace, not too far from here. Yeah what just about 875 miles, a couple of days drive, "right around the corner" in BC terms....(probably quicker to take the ferry to Prince Rupert eh?)

Beautiful wrap, and the natural look of the stone goes very well with the copper.

Very nice Shelby. The wrap is really great...and it's probably a good thing you wrapped that beauty. I think it could have easily been mistaken for a yummy piece of caramel. steve

Yep, I noticed the ends. I'm very happy it worked out well for you. Yeah, it is Future floor wax...clear nail polish works too. The nail polish and acrylic spray will wear and you have to re-apply...but heck, like you say...green skin ain't purty. lol...
