I have done a total of 9 wraps with silver wire. I showed them to a few friends and have sold 4 of them and have a guy sending me a stone to wrap for his granddaughter. Gadzooks! I thought they looked amateurish. I can't wait until I really get good. Curt

Wow, Curt, that's great! You maybe still have to work at improving your wraps, but mostly you have to work at stopping to underestimate yourself! Did you sell that beautiful reddish wood too?

Way to go guy! *clapping* Now remember to number your pieces...like p0107 ...meaning pendant (p) , first piece (01) and year (07) . While I may know if a piece is my 200th pendant, I can't remember what year I made it. So....I thought I'd give ya'll starting out a heads up. Also, keep a spiral note book and write down how much wire and what stone you used in that item number. You will be glad you did that too!

That's outstanding Curt, congratulations. Really feels good to sell something you made yourself huh?
Thanks for sharing the advice Nancy.. I really need to start documenting things better myself.

How does everyone price their work- by the hour or by the piece?

I price it by the piece. But it's not my major source of income and I live in a state with no income tax. I can see how charging by the hour would be beneficial if you were really trying to make a business work. But I'm going to start documenting as per nancy's suggestion because I want to start keeping track of how much silver I use.

You guys....lol.... Yeah, keeping track of the cost of each item is beneficial for a number of reasons. One, you can use the ol "4 times cost" or "whatever times cost" and you will always know how much you can discount if someone is special, or buys a number of items. This works well for the hobby person. When doing a business, you REALLY need to know these things...and you can also make a note of how much time it took you to make a piece. You will see if you are making them faster (not my forte, but thought I'd throw that in thar as it is important to a lot of people in business). Personally, I price a piece according to the cost of materials and time. I will then evaluate as to what the market will bear or rather how much my target customers will pay. An item is only worth what someone will pay for it in the end. If I think my market will pay more...I mark the piece accordingly and visa versa. I am gearing my site for high end items (not quite there yet) ...but my home shows are geared to the deep or shallow pockets that will attend. Cheers! Nancy F
