Hello everyone, I just purchased a 8" Bench Grinder/Buffer from harbor freight, and want to use it to preform and cab stones. It has a 5/8" shaft threaded at both ends. I could add a disc at each end, and there's room at one end to add a grind wheel or what i'm thinkin a expandable drum. Can I use an expandable drum at 3600 RPM? What are your thoughts?

I think the Rayspan drums say 1750 max. Also check whatever grinding wheels you plan to use. If they have a max it should say on the wheel.

Now that I have them on the table the 8" say 1800 max and the 6" 2800 max.

Harbor Freight has a router speed control. That is the answer to machines that turn too high. That is what I use. Makes things affordable.

I'd be careful with speed controls unless the motor has replaceable brushes (usually two black plastic covers on motor cover). Even then I'd watch the motor temperature closely. Reducing voltage to a motor to slow it down will shorten the motor life and reduce power.
