A good friend gave me a tiny piece of red corundum she found on a mountain in NC called by the nickname of "The Gal". It is the "gemmiest" piece she has ever found and was VERY kind to give it to me. The specimen "mount" I made is of mahogany wood and stainless steel wire and tubing. There is a wire running through the tubing which hooks up to a LED!! LED Lit,,,,, My work on this was a little shabby but at least it's finished and not like most things around here!! connrock

Awsome job. I think you got something there; you should try and market it.

Very nice Tom. Are you ready to market these to a real mineral collector? Maybe 500 or more of these units? Just kidding. I like the simplicity of it and it's a great way to show the color in the ruby.

Thanks everyone!! You sure know how to make a guy feel good! Steve, Common buddy you know me much better then to ask if I hire out! If I can't do it for free it aint gettin done!! If you're serious about me making a mount for your Virgin Valley Pinecone I would be honored to do it for you. Stoner, I don't have enough time left on earth to make 20 of these never mind 500! I'm not very good with wood and used a Stanley Knife and a few files to make this one! Me and wood NEVER got along! Rocketman, Hey Jim I knew someone would straighten me out on the "Gal"! Hey ,,,,ya gotta give me credit for knowin it's in NC!! LOL Speaking of Chunky Gal there a song I like to sing to my wife,,,,, It goes somethin like this,,,, She keeps me warm in the winter, Shady in the summer time' That's what I like about that fat gal of mine! And when the landlord comes a knockin, There's soooooo much of her to hide behind, Don't know what I'd do without that fat gal of mine!! Perety,,,,,Aint it? LOL Rebelrose, Thanks, The stone just sits in the "cradle" of some very thin stainless steel wire.I bent the wire to fit it perfectly so even if you hold the piece upside down the stone stays put! parfive, Thanks! OLD DOG,,,,,Who you callin and Old Dog?? And what's wrong with my wirin'? I get along with wires about as well as I do wood!! LOL They both have shocking results on me!! LOL cpdad, Thanks! Common Kev,,,,I made that light! The "post" is stainless steel tubing and the lamp shade was the head of a allen head stainless steel bolt I turned down on a lathe before I retired!I silver soldered it to the post and off ya go! If you're asking where I bought the LED'S it was at: www.plasmaled.com/high_power_leds.htmconnrock
