A month or two ago my wife was in craft store and bought some jewelry bails to try out. She liked the results and got more. At last we have something to do with all the rocks, at least the ones that aren't too heavy to wear around your neck. She even sold some to her colleagues at work and gave some to relatives and friends at Christmas. All were well received. Here is a picture of some examples:

Tell us more about the bails. I bought some similar ones from Firemountain, called hidden bails but they are expensive. These look very nice! The rocks ain't bad either. john

Tell us more about the bails. I bought some similar ones from Firemountain, called hidden bails but they are expensive. Wife bought the first ones at a local craft and jewelry store, but they wanted $3 for two. I searched around online and ended up buying 50 from Aanraku Glass supplies. www.abasg.comThe 50 cost about $37 with shipping and they arrived in less than a week. These were the nickel plated ones, gold and silver plate cost a few dollars more. I found them at a few other places but they all had a minimum order of $35 to $50, Aanraku had no minimum. Firemountain didn't seem to have this exact bail, or at least I couldn't find it on their web site. Hope this answers your question.

Well SH!T, i've been looking for a bail like that for a while to do a special custom amethyst pendant for someone! That's one of the things I love about this place, sometimes the answers are already here before you've even had a chance to ask the question! ;D What do the backs look like? How do they attach? Tell me MORE!

I'm w/Lcars; been SO looking, have not found them. Same questions???
So, are they they (the bails) the kind that have a glue-on little plate behind the bail? Please, do tell??? If so, do they work well? I was afraid to order something similar, for fear it would be too small to hold the rocks.
And your pix are wonderful! I am in awe of the stones. What a shine!
Thanks for sharing, and helping me out!

Try the link I have in my post above. It is for Aanraku Glass Studios (they also sell some jewelry fittings that included the bails). On the first page of the link is a small picture of the bails, follow the link there to see the full selection. Yes, they are a flat plate that is glued on the back of the stone. So far, they are holding up well. There are two sizes which you can see in my picture above. The plate is in the shape of a leaf, a bit more stylized than just a rectangular flat plate. www.abasg.com

These bails were made specifically for glass but will work on rocks also. DO NOT USE a super-glue (cyanoacrylate) on these to glue them. They simply won't work with the type of materials used and will separate very easily. Epoxy type (slow drying) glues work best. Some good examples are E6000 - Epoxy 220 - Epoxy 330. But the truth is there is no glue that's absolutely 100% reliable. Most would last a lifetime but the bail could separate on a few over a period of time. It helps if you rough up the stone with a piece of sandpaper where it comes in contact with the bail itself. Steve

I've bought the exact bails and used them on E-dog's "junk". They are very nice, a little expensive, but it makes the piece look nice, not cheapy like a lot of bails that are out there! I found them when I searched in Ebay for stained glass supplies.

Yep, we been using those for around 3 years. Last week I just finished using the rest of them on some bigger polished pieces to hang in the window. I use the 5 min. epoxy with them.
