Hello everyone! Today I've finished what I begun 3 days ago, meaning ginding and polishing the pet woods Mike have sent me in order to cut and share with him (5 pieces of pet wood). Here they are, pictured in pairs coming from the same piece of wood: And the group shot, including the red one that I've finished last week ( forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=Pictures&action=display&thread=21303 ): Below are some close-ups, which reveal great patterns and grains: Mike, it was a pleasure to work with those woods (although my right elbow and fingers ache me now because of so much pressing on the lap). It's a wonderful material, no fractures, the cracks are naturally consolidated with calcedony, they take good shine. Thanks all for looking and thank you again Mike for having such a great idea! Adrian

Adrian, those are beautiful! I love that #2 pic, what amazing colors. Great job! Are you going to sign them for Mike?

Adrian, you da man!
You have done a better job than I had anticipated. Thank you. You just never know what you'll find when you cut them open. I hope your halves make a nice addition to your collection.
Now, after spending all that time cutting, shaping and polishing rocks, make sure you spend some time sitting with your wife and your daughter, talking, listening and letting them know you love them...deal?
As far as your question in the PM you sent me, we're all fine.
It's flooding in north Queensland and was flooding in northern New Soth Wales. We have had plenty of rain in south east Queensland but no flooding. We have a saying in Australia..."It's either a drought or a flood." That's whart it's like. We are hopefully, if this rain continues, at the end of our worst drought in recorded history, so, we CANNOT complain about the rain.

Ooh, #2 is my favorite, too! I can't tell what the scale is, but if large enough they would make gorgeous bookends!
Again, great collaboration. Wish you could cut them in fours so that each of you have a "pair." That would be a lot more work, though!

Amy, I thimk you'll be a bit disappointed, but those ones are the smallest: about two inches height. Way too small for book-ends. You can see them in the "group shot". Thank you everyone for the nice words. OK, Mike, deal! Adrian

Those are really cool Adrian! Looks like they came right off the tree with that fabulous grain pattern. Great job on the shine!

Beautiful job Adrian, You have a great skill for showing the beauty of the wood. I also love pet wood, such a cool way to hold something as tangible as a picture from another time. Here in Yellowstone country layer upon layer of forests were covered by volcanic flows that produced quite a lot of pet wood, but mostly muted colors.
