The Montana quarter with the Montana agates is a nice touch. ;D I noticed that you're from Montana, did you find those yourself? Very nice job on the tumble!!

I remember that tumbler. I was highly impressed when you built it, and even more so now after seeing your first batch. Congratulations.

Thanks for all the thumbs ups,( ) Bikerrandy, Yes, it really is my first tumble. How could I go wrong, with the info I've found here!! I think they need more burnishing, (was a three step grind, followed with AO pre-polish and polish.) I could only let them run an hour or so in grated Ivory and borax because they made such a tinkling sound that I think even more plastic pellets are needed, esp. for the wood in the batch. I did self collect these Montanas, We live only 25 miles from the Yellowstone River, but about 400 miles too far upstream. Great fishing and hunting, but not so much moss agate. It is a 5 hour plus drive to get to eastern MT where the good stuff is. We collected in early fall, was picked over since spring but we brought home lots of plainer agate and some cool woods. I have some more nicer stuff saved for the saw in process... These really nice pieces were shards, would love to find a whole nodule of that quality. The larger agate was a white skinned one that took a couple months to grind down. Jack, The tumbler runs at 35 rpm. (with 12 lb. Lortone barrels) When I get the right slurry running, it eats all the coarse grit in three days!! (Sure glad I recently got a Workforce, it will pay for itself in savings on grit in short order.)
