Those are cool!! What are they? Amethyst? No Randy, they are Benitoite; geology.about.com/library/bl/images/blbenitoite.htmwww.calstategemmine.com/history.htmlVery pretty...how big are they? They look pretty gemmy...any plans for them? Oops, sorry I should have posted one with some perspective: Not really huge, about 4 carats total between the 3 of them, the biggest one weighs about 2ct, the middle one is over 1ct and the smallest one is less than a carat- on one hand they're probably worth more cut, but they are pretty awesome in the rough too, what gets done with these might depend on what gets etched out of the matrix bound pieces we got. I guess I need to get to know a faceter, since even if I were equipped to do it, I don't think I'd want to take a chance at screwing any of these up.

If you need a good faceter, I can think of few better than Jeff White. He does outstanding work, he'll cut your rough and his prices are pretty reasonable. www.whitesgems.com/faq.htm

nice crystals - those are most definately cutters. No real formal Benitoite shape. Now, if they were fully shaped and that color - you could probably retire.
