Hi,
I find it easier, and safer to bond an irregular shaped stone to a regular shaped one and then hold it in a normal vice...
I still have a Fossilized Tree Trunk that I bonded in this way 25yrs ago using car body filler.
Having used a Rock Grabber to cut Mendip Potato Stones, I know that they work well. However, wait until one slips when using a brand new top of the range 24" blade, and I promise you that you will never use it again.
I think they are a great solution when using cheap blades. However, I would never use them with an expensive one.
Hope this helps,
Derek

I'm not into the expensive blades yet, maybe someday. But i suppose that would be just like using plaster paris.

Not really, Car Body Filler is waterproof when set and will stay solid for years... To give you some idea, the following picture is that piece of Fossilized Wood from Madagascar that I cut all those years ago. As you can see, the material is very fragile and full of cracks, hence the need for the car body filler. It holds the whole piece together. It was so fragile that I could not mount it in the saw in the normal way, so I had to bond it to a piece of squared off Granite... I could still take a slice off it today, if only I still had a saw big enough. Hope this helps, Derek

I use super glue (CA Special-T) to glue the rock to a 2x2 or 2x4 about 6 inches long. Then when I finish cutting slabs I set the saw to saw the rock off the wood. Then soak the rock with the thin slice of wood and glue in acetone. I haven't had one slip yet.
