Part 3 is set on April 7th...my birthday. We packed up and left the farm stay drove to our friends' place to stay a few nights...via Chinchilla. For those of you who haven't heard me go on and on about Chinchilla before, it's about 3 hours west of Brisbane and areas around the town are literally littered with pet wood. Great colours, really hard, great wood grain patterns...I can't get enough of it. We spent about 1 hour looking for rocks and had to get out of there when it looked like we were going to get hit by a huge thunderstorm. Here's the pics... Some of you may remember my last post about my last trip out to Chinchilla. (I'll add the link later) I found a really nice larger piece but it was embedded in very very hard white clay/rock stuff. I had to leave it behind. many of you called me crazy for leaving it behind but I had no choice. This time I took a full size miners pick in the hope that no one else had found it...they hadn't. It probably took 1/2 hour for me, my wife and my 5 y/o son to dig it out but we got it ;D. Here it is. Close up of the grain pattern. The whole haul. Some close-ups. The only piece of pet palm I have found to date. I can't wait to get cutting some of the pieces I found and see what treasures are waiting to be found inside. Thanks for looking. Have a top day. Mike

Thanks for all of the pics. I think we need an RTH trip to Australia, I really do! How soon before that farmer starts doing something else on that land.... <grin>
And I love the chinchilla..... How bad is shipping...?

Answers...
Shipping is VERY BAD! We don't have anything like FRB's. As an example...3kg air mailed to USA is around $60 AUD. (That's 6 1/2 lbs at $56 USD). NASTY! However, if you want any of the material that I find, and you are happy to cover postage then the rocks are yours for free.
Have I found Mookaite? No. I live right on the East cost of Australia. Mookaite is found on only 1 property in Western Australia which is as far from me as California is from New York.

Mike, all the pet woods you found are great, but the last three ones are astonishing! Especially the 3rd one from the end is really unique. Lincoln seems to enjoy very much rockhounding with daddy.
