Not too far for you to make a day trip to FLintRidge Ohio. Flint tumbles nicely. ALso, not too far to go down to Hillsburo, WV and get fossil coral. And .. don't overlook furnace slag.

Welcome! I have family in PA, though I've never been there... I'm a west coast rockhound. I'd love to see what kinds of rock you can find in your area.

I pretty much already gave you the best options. I used to live in State College, and aside from some Serpentinite near Philly and some meta-rhyolite down towards the Maryland border, there is not much.
But the flint in FlintRidge is nice, and there are very nice pieces of slag near East Brady.
From Portland there is some oppotunity to go to the coast for Beach Agate, but the pickings are better earlier in the winter. You can also go over towards Mt. Hood. Also lots of petwood all over Oregon.
Get Gem Trails of Oregon from the library and check out the area around Portland. The Clackamus area is not too far.

Hey, Deb-
Where near the Maryland border would one find the meta-rhyolite? My In-Laws live just north of Hagerstown right off I-81. I'm wondering about the possibility of a short diversion next time we're out there in July. ;D
