Well - the cab came out of my first "batch" anyway. I used my trusty wf saw and a eBay diamond wheel on my bench grinder to shape the stone (Calico agate) and just now (Saturday, May 10) I tried my hand at a simple wire wrap. I have a LONG way to go, but this sure is fun. My wife said that was her favorite one from my first batch, so I wrapped it to give her on Mother's day. You guys and gals make really fancy wraps, so I hope to learn from you as I go along. Thom Tapp

Dude, thumbs up! LOVE the cab, and I think you did a great job at making the wrap appropriate for the cab. You definately have a natural gift for wrapping, so KEEP IT UP!

I like the wrap and I really like the stone - you may want to try using half round for the wraps - they lay better and flatter
That's most definately a keeper - great job

Thanks for the kind comments! Do you use two wires or three to surround your cabs? My sister uses three, but I tried it with two, and it works fine so far...

The cab is a beauty! WTG! And the first wrap is very promissing!

That turned out great. When I do my wraps the number of wires depends on the thickness of the cab. Tami

I am new here and I'll tell you your first attempt was far better than my first efforts. I still cringe at my first wrap. Using half round on square wire will give you a tighter and flatter wrap. The number of wires used depends on the thickness of the cab. Generally, thicker the cabs the more wires you bundle. In my humble opinion, very nice!
Another suggestion if I may? If you have a tumbler and steel shot you can tumble your piece as long as the stone is hard enough with the steel shot, some water and burnishing soap. It does a lovely job polishing the silver without all the tedium of doing it by hand.

Nicely done! And nice work for a bench grinder. I hope you at least have a spray bottle to spritz the stone while you grind. And a fan to blow the dust away from you. Don't breath that dust. T

Great wrap! Wow, if that's your #1 I can't wait to see more. That cab is just amazing. I've never seen anything like it! For me, the number of wires depends on the thickness also. It it's thin, I go with three wires. If it's right in the middle, I use 4, and if it's real thick, more. I am not sure if this is how it's done, but I basically keep stacking up wires until it's the same width as the cab's bezel and go with that. It's worked for me. But we all gotta do things our own way, so whatever works for you. I like the two-wire idea as long as the stone is nice and secure. I'll have to give it a try Steve
