Hi all,new to the site and have never written before. I love to read all about a subject before I get involved and I was reading about using sailcloth on a horizontal lap and charging with diamond compound. Only problem is I can't find any old fashioned sailcloth. Seems to be all man made fibers now. Would it be worthwhile to search out some cloth or is this so old-fashioned that it isn't cost effective anymore? Thanks for any help!

Sailcloth has always been traditionally cotton canvas. The polishing disks on my Genie are made of a heavy canvas which use diamond on and it works quite well. Tent and awning companies would be a good source for this material and their scrapes should cost you little or nothing.

I'm assuming they are talking about canvas. Diamond Pacific cab units all come with a canvas pad and diamond compound. The canvas pads cost less than leather pads. Leather would probably work just fine.

I think canvas is more absorbent and so easier to treat, but leather is also used and recommended sometimes for "softer" material such a jade. It's all a mystery really.Mike.

Hi,
The last time I bought sail cloth was in 1959...
It was Egyptian Cotton from J C Penney in Bellingham.
Hope this helps,
Derek
