Last thursday, my daughter and I participated in the club auction - there were lots of things to buy, one in particular was a trim saw, no blade, that went for $16 (not to me).
Here's what my daugther bid on for $4 - not the chrysocolla (that came with my lot but she swiped it from me before I got a good look at it when we brought it home) she also had a piece of calcite & some other quartzy unknown material ...
I have to say I'm not super thrilled with some of these (Maybe I'm being fussy) - I got outbid on the lots I wanted and I ended up bidding on some lots I hadn't really checked out - lots of good stuff I know but some is just so-so stuff
Here are my wins (click for bigger pic:
owhee jasper (comet crashing)
mahogony obsidian
jasper - blah
someone put a piece of tape and said it was sandstone (there were doubts about that - any one know what this could be? leaverite?
prairie agate
small end piece from a thunderegg
crazy lace
they say this is moss agate - I haven,t a clue, I've never seen this in the wild - it looks more like montana agate from the outside
lace?
blue stuff - looks like calcite??
calcedony - was wondering if it could have some fire in there? it looks dark enough - how would I find out?
another angle
brazilian (weird cut the other side is orange)
amethyst slice (kinda fractury)
this was IDed as poppy agate - any clues - how would I cut this stuff? it looks pretty quartzy
another view
Tiger eye - yummy
two slabs of picture jasper - the one on the right is 1" thick on one side - finger in there for size reference (these I'm happy with - I ended up with 2 slabs - 2 different lots - I don't remember that - a happy surprise that was!
**DROOL WARNING - DROOL WARNING - PLEASE PLACE BIBS IN THE DROOLING POSITION AND REMOVE KEYBOARD FROM DROOL LANDING AREA**
These came with 2 different lots -the malachite is about one inch at the longest part - the others are jelly opals (lots with crap were being bid on because of these babies - bibs ready? scroll down...
up close with jelly opals (I'm drooling!) anyone know how to work these?
These I got for $20 for the whole bunch - I hope it's a good deal - he says he normally sells them for $5 each - there looks to be some color flash - looking forward to trying them out
Please remember to wipe drool before typing....
Thanks for looking
