All the machines that ya'll have come up with is so cool. It's like your mad scientists. ;D I show my husband all the cool machines ya'll make and tell him I need you to make me one of these. It's really cool too that ya'll share your ideas. I am always looking here to see what is new. Saying mad scientist is not meant in any mean spirit. I do not mean to offend.

Mad scientists? Most of us are not scientists at all. Just plain mad, crazy, people that walk around staring at the ground and picking up rocks.

Hi Dawn, Although I've built a lot of machinery in my day I find that I get more enjoyment on improving what's out there.
One of my BIGGEST pet peeves is buying something that "isn't finished"!
By that I mean there is something that wasn't thought through on it's design to make it a "finished "product.
Yes money does enter into the manufacturers equation but in most cases a few more bucks would make any given product that finishing touch.
Thumler's Model B is a great example of this.
The motor mount is spot welded and can not be moved which makes it impossible to change pulleys which would change the speed of the rotating barrel.
I re-worked mine and now can slide the motor in and out to change pulley/belt sizes.
I have altered every tumbler I have(9 of them) to improve on them one way or the other.
This is just the tip of the re-work ice berg I've done.
I think the real excitement of home built equipment comes from knowing you have built a finished product that was thought through and through and needs little or no improvement.
I added a wind shield wiper and a 12 volt light to my 10" slab saw! The wiper keeps the Plexiglas cover clean and the light lets me see whats going on inside!!
These saws are a REAL pain to clean as well.
I re-worked mine so that it swings up out of the way to clean which is M U C H better then trying to lift the heavy mucky saw out of it's tank/pan!
Thinking, designing, improving building all keep my old mind greased and at the end of the day this Old Mad Scientist can sit back and enjoy his "art"!!

I want to add a light like one of those water proof Spa/hot tub lights to my Panther saw so I can see the cutting a bit better. The wiper is a goo idea.

When you add a light make sure it doesn't give off a lot of heat.
I may change mine to a LED .I found a web site that has some pretty bright ones.
