When we were in Prineville looking through the rock shop's rock piles, there was this material called Wasco-it that looked like it would make some really nice slabs. I bought a few pieces of it and when I got home I put one of the smaller pieces in my saw to see how she would turn out. Here are the pieces that were cut across the grain a closeup of some of those pieces These were cut with the grain a couple of closeups with the grain The first slab off of about a 10 pound geode out of the 10 cent pile, I can see waterline agate showing through in some of it, so some of the later slabs should be really interesting. The other 2 pieces are some dendridic stuff that was in the slab bucket from Challis. closer look Well thats all that I have cut so far, I have a piece of Graveyard point jasper that Ozzy and I found and some Rocky Butte from a little rock shop on the way home on the short list. Thanks for looking...................Tony

Very nice materials. Is that Wasco-ite some sort of pet wood? It looks so, especially when cut across the grain.

From what I can find on the net it is agatized lake bed deposits from Wasco, Oregon. From the pieces that we found that fits the description, because none of the pieces look like wood replacement.

Right, I asked the shop owner if it was wood. She said it was sedimentary.
Tony, I think the best cut would be about 10-12 degrees into the plane of the grain. I saw one broken piece that had just slightly dipped into the grain and the wide swirling bands looked real nice.
