She saw this on ebay for $140 (3#) and wants me to buy it and slab it. 6.75 x 5.75 x 1.375 I did some checking and bought it. I think I'll let her look at it for a while before taking a saw to it.

Can I have an end piece? ;D
That's gorgeous, not sure I could bring myself to cut it.

There is no possible way I would or even could cut that beautiful piece and I am sure whoever polised it would have a heart attack if you did. My opinion.

I never understood why malachite was always polished when for sale in "rough" form. But it's just such a cool material...

I received the piece today and it is beautiful. It is severly cupped in the back, but I could get a dozen or so killer cabs from the piece. It is likely from the Congo and whoever polished it could care less. From a materials cost point of view, it would be a waste to cut it up. My wife started collecting minerals and crystals before she started collecting cabs. Best use would be to put it on a shelf along with the other display pieces (which are currently boxed up). The link provided by Spirit Stone has some pieces that are very similar, cheaper, and almost as nice.
If the piece was somewhat even I could have taken a slice off the unpolished back, but that is not the case.
I have a face polished dryhead nodule about 3x3x3 tapering, that I could take a slices off the back without much impact.

better to use it for a Air Filter( Dust Collector ), then to Cab it.
Nicaragua Material, The Goverment put a stop to rough leaving the Country,
So the miner`s would grind on the top of a huge piece an dished out area for a Ash-Tray.
Mine you the piece was over 72 Lbs. Shipped to Oregon, The joke was you would need a hand cart to move it. Bought in 1978.

It is a beautiful display piece and considering the complex pattern and super shine I would say it was a good deal. The stuff is not easy to polish as it is unhealthy to breath the dust. That is why I buy the slabs from Ivanwalker; I only have a wok force saw and it is messy to slab and when it dries the dust is a worry.
