Hello Everyone, I am still new at this but I went out and collected some rocks while I was visiting my sons in Texas. These were on a roadside on the way to a lake. They are slick feeling and almost soapy feeling when wet. They don't scratch with a knife so they are hard enough for the tumbler and a few have some very tiny crystal vug areas. Does anyone know what they could be? Thank you. Fran

My humble opinion is ..... it's flint. Very, very common in central Texas. Might take a good polish but I know it is fairly fragile as it will break off. That is what the Indians used to make arrowheads. Hope it helps

The Hobbit is correct Good old Texas flint. It'll polish nicely, but like Sherri said, use lots of cushion it chips easily. Curt

Thank you so much! I thought it might be but really was guessing. I live there for years and never even noticed this stuff until I got a rock tumbler for Christmas. Now I am always looking around when I have a little time. Fran

Wow...saw the words San Angelo and had to respond. I lived in or near San Angelo my entire life until a few years ago when I moved to NC. Anyway, as you know they are flint or chert. I'll tell you though, everything I've collected out in that area tumbles great. I have not had problems with chipping, and running them on a 4+4+4+4 week cycle, they will shine beautifully.

Thanks for responding. I really like San Angelo. I guess it just grows on you after you're there for awhile. It is nice to leave a busy area and go there just to relax and enjoy life. Fran
