From what I have been able to gather, the answer is that it can be important if you are using S.C. but probably not for diamond. S.C. wears relatively quickly so you may be pumping rougher grit in with the recycled water from the tray-if,of course ,you are using geysers.Diamond sheds particles more slowly and they are denser and will tend to sink and not get picked up.Agree? Not? Mike.

My Genie never picks up contaminates even with a good layer of rock sludge in the pan. I don't know why but glad I don't have to remove and clean pans every step.

On second thought, I don't think diamond wheels "shed" particles of diamond like S/C does. You wear the diamonds down over time but nothing like the S/C material. My son used to use an old machine I had S/C wheels on and would grind off a 1/2" of wheel on one stone (and never evenly). With diamonds you pretty much only have the rock you are grinding off in the pan.

I don't change water between belts, either. I do tend to batch my rough grind, since the sludge is so bad. So, if I'm doing a batch of rough grind, that's all I'll do with that batch of water.

Warm water, sheer luxury. The water in my workshop freezes in winter.
Have a tank system and buckets. Will be looking at permanent supply with warm water when we relocate. And no I never re-use any water.

Warm water?! That's HERESY!!! How can you possibly expect to get good cabs without suffering1?!
;D I use an immersion heater for my water in the winter, arthritis does NOT like cold water!

Tinker bell throws off a lot of water and air even with geyser cooling. It effective becomes an evaporative cooler. In the winter, I have a pitcher of hot water that I use to keep adequate water in the pans.
I change water whenever I move the pan. Two passes through 80,220,280 and then one pass 600,1200 with new water and again 3,000 14000 with new water. The water is pretty dirty by the time I am ready for the 600.

We use Diamond wheels and there doesn't seem to be a problem.

I also found that the warm water is better when you dop - less likely to get a fly-off with warm water - and it's nicer on the hands too
