I had to post this one, cuz I just don't know much about fossils, but it is a really neat piece. I found this about 3 weeks ago, high into the mountains. My buddy told me he had possibly found a Spanish Marker, and he wanted me to go up and check it out. There is a pretty neat history of the Spanish being in Utah and mining gold! I have all the books, and would feel really lucky to stumble onto anything that would lead to a cache. This area is in the high Uintas here in Utah. From a spotting scope...the formation looks like stacked rocks and a possible heart. Both are good signs of possible Spanish origin. Look closely middle left. After a few hours of hiking, steep and rugged country, we arrived at the spot. Unfortunately...NOT a monument or a heart. Just a natural formation. But...it wasn't at a lost cause. I stumbled on some horn coral and this pretty neat fossil. Any thoughts??? Sorry for all the pics...and the report. Steve

Well, I'm no seasoned treasure hunter, but I've seen a few things. I would look around that area more. That looks like it still "could" be a marker. I was thinking an Owl instead of a heart though. I can't remember exactly what the owl means. It could be worth your time to post that picture on a treasure hunting web page and get a better opinion. This is one I frequent, www.treasurenet.com In the forums is a section for post markers and signs.

Thanks Nancy and Titania! kbrocks...Thanks for your input! In this area there was a Spanish Cannon found...so there were lots of Spanish in the area. I'll have to post a pic on the forum you mentioned. I would've taken a Gold Bar over fossils though. Steve

Well... the rock you're holding for whatever reason I think looks like eewww peterfied maggots.. lol.. sorry.. anyways I think it's a strong possiblity ...they didn't only stack rocks did they?.......what if it's head fell off and it was suppose to be a big Bird.. and those were it's wings.?. wouldn't happen to have seen any caves around there by any chance did you? either way.. I wouldn't blow it off until you're without a doubt sure we are all seeing things.. .. Good luck ...
