Cool, what's the purple stuff in there? Have you IDed it? What did you do with it? Haha, and the saga begins.

I was told by some of the rockhounds on the Dirty Rockhound Forum that it was a mica schist with garnets. Still not absolutely sure. It is riddled with those little purple stones!

I think the Dirty Rockhouds are exactly right on that ID. Schist is a common rock where I live, although I've not seen any riddled with garnet here...pity.

Well I found it while I was digging with one of those tiny backhoes. I was digging a whole to bury some asphalt that was broken up all in the driveway. And there it was! I don't know for sure if I dug it up or just disturbed where it was sitting, making it more noticeable! I have not cleaned it at all. The pictures are exactly what it looked like when I picked it up. Well til my son dropped it and broke that small peice off. It sat on my deck for 3 years before I tried to find out what it was. I'm thinking it came from somewhere else because I've lived in this area all my life and have never seen anything resembling this particular one. Maybe someone found it while on vacation then put it in the yard and forgot about it. I don't know.....all I know is it is cool looking!

When I first spotted it, it looked like melted metal and I thought WOW a BIG METEORITE!!!!!!!!! Then I saw the garnets and knew it was terrestrial. But I'm extremely happy with it being my first find!
