Last year I made this tiger eye pendant for my mom: She really loved it but had a hard time with the size. It was about 1 1/2" long and she is used to the size of pendants you would buy in a jewelry store......you know small, faceted gems and such. So I told her I would re-work the pendant for her. She also mentioned wanting it even more simple than the first version. Mom LOVES simple. I always jokingly tell her that if I could make a stone float on her neck with no wrap at all, she would be thrilled. So this is what I came up with. A simple wrap with no border.......just 4 small prongs holding it. So maybe it wouldnt be considered a wrap? I think I will call it a Grip LOL. Its a little rough around the edges so to speak but I hope to improve on this design. I didnt want to leave the prongs blunt edged as prongs are not normally that way. So I just cut them at an angle, trying to make them all the same and then I filed them and tumbled the whole thing in ss shot. The pendant is now about 1/2" long. Tiger eye is a pain in the behind to photograph. Trying to capture the eye properly is like trying to photograph the fire in opal. I always sign the pieces that I give as gifts with a hand hammered "S". Thanks for lookin, Shannon PS-Mom loved it.

Shannon...it's just lovely.
I totally understand why she was more inclined to like a little smaller pendant. When I'm tinkering with my rocks making jewelry, our natural inclination is to keep as much of the rock as possible but that doesn't always translate into a good piece. Well done girlfriend!

I can't imagine wrapping something so small. I don't know what you mean by rough around the edges, it looks perfect to me. Great job. I hope she likes it.

Wonderful job. I love the prongs and the new size of the cab. I also love the sig. you put on it. I'm glad she liked it, if not, you could have sent it to me, LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice pendant. Like the simple form and usage of wire.

I triple love it - love the stone - it looks shinier than in the first pic, I love the wrap/grip perfectly executed and I love the signature "S" - was gonna ask about it when I first saw it - Great job!
How does the bail hold? or the top prongs - I'm not sure which wires go with the bail - how well does it hold?
Actually I quadruple love it - cuz you showed the back too!

The bail is very secure. I started with 4 wires........at the top, the outer two became the prongs. The inner two were bent over backwards to form the bail. Before shaping the bail, half hard, half round was wrapped around all four wires twice, then the bail was shaped and the half round was wrapped around the four main wires, plus the two for the bail. You can see this in the side photo. The two ends of the bail were curled up to secure the whole thing...and it is very secure. This is what I hung my little hammered "S" from.
I learned this bail making technique from a pendant that I purchased from Jeremy. It is my favorite way of making bails. I had been having a hard time with them until I received Jeremy's pendant. Sometimes its very helpful to see another wrapper's work in person.

WOW, Shannon, what a beautiful "Grip" you have on that pendant!
I remember seeing the original and thinking how wonderful that one was but now seeing the smaller re-cut, I think you have out-done yourself! And if I might expand on Tweet's take...
I quintuple love it because you had the humility to take a personal creation and re-work it into someone else's vision of beauty and you did it all with LOVE!!!!
Fantastic Wrap or Grip - however you call it!!!!

Nice work and not a bad photo at all.
What is the little S on the back of the pendant?

The first one was beautiful but if your mom likes smaller pendants than your re-work is absolutely perfect. You did a great job on the prongs and I love how you place your own artistic signature on each piece (the S)

I like it very much, although I also like the previous pendant. At a second look, the new setting is more simple and ellegant. Did you manage to save some piece from the old pendant? It looks a lot bigger than the new one. Adrian PS. Your PS. wasn't necessary, she HAD to love such a beauty!

Daniel,
I sign the pieces that I gift as gifts with an "S" which is the first letter of my name. Its the first thing that my family members say when they find out I am making them something......"I want an S on mine too!!!"
Thanks for the compliments everyone!
