Time for another cabbing update... FINALLY got the perfect shine on my obsidian. It only took getting away from those awful Eastwind diamond belts. Once I popped on the 3M belt, all was good with the world again. These are all from nodules I got from Mel: Pictures don't do this one justice...there's some chatoyance going on inside the stone itself that just doesn't show up in photos. A little baby Montana. This guy is about .75" long: Another little baby...this one's a horn coral: I'm having brain freeze on this material's name...driving me nuts. I got this little slab at a local show. Wish I'd bought more. Some Chert (?) from the Ace of Diamonds mine in Herkimer, NY. A gorgeous little slab from another one of Jack's brazilian nodules. And last...a gorgeous piece of common opal from woodyrock. This stuff is a pleasure to work, and I LOVE that honey color. That's it for now!

Like Tweetiepy said! You sure got a beautiful shine on these cabs! The Brazilian nodule made one really nice cab. You did great bringing out everything going on in that stone. Woody

Your cabs are awe inspiring. I wasn't going to even try to pick a favorite but when I saw that Brazilian Nodule I couldn't help myself. The way the pattern surrounds the edge, it reminds me of a Butterfly wing. Absolutely beautiful.

Your shine is to die for. That brazilian certainly is special. Chert from the Ace of Diamonds mine? Really? I thought that whole hill was dolomite. I know that's were the diamonds are. Next time I go there I'll try that mine instead.

Next time I go there I'll try that mine instead. Yup...it's in a vein out in the back field above the dolomite cliff where you dig for diamonds. Supposedly you can find diamonds out there, too, but we didn't...just the chert and some other rusty crystal stuff in the dolomite. When we went back there, there was this nice colorful rock vein sticking out of the ground. Obviously nobody else cared about it, because it looked totally untouched. I got out my hammer and chisel and dug 2 full 5 gallon buckets full. I don't honestly know what it is...chert seemed to be a best guess. Thanks for all the great comments, guys! That brazilian is my favorite, too...I'm having a ton of fun with these nodules, that's for sure.
