Anyone have a guess what these slabs might be and where it may have come from? I bought the rock at an aquarium shop. They look a lot like the first rock picture in sitnwrap's thread in this section: Hope

My first pic is a rock that I also got at an aquarium shop. Sorry, but I don't know what it is. I thought the blue in mine might be sodalite but that's just a guess. When I cut the stone, the reddish brown in it turned the water really dirty.

Too funny, I get alot of my rock at a local aquarium shop as well. Can you post a closer pic of those?

Here is a picture of just one of the slabs close-up. The brown lines in it are very soft and the slabs would break along these lines with the oil being a rusty brown color like the soft substance in these fractures. I really like checking out the pet shops to see what they might be carrying. I just got one that has like white, and dark brown or purple, and a robin egg blue in it. First time I have ever seen anything like it. Will cut it soon. Hope

I looks similar to some Mojave Desert rhyolites that I have seen. There are several places in the Mojave that work up old lava flows and sell to the "garden shops", "builder supply", and "pet stores". Most of the material I have seen is in the purplish-red tone, much of it is fractured, and it is usually pretty porous. Water is usually soaked up for bit until the rock gets really wet. Some looks more like swiss cheese, but some is also pretty solid, except for cracks.
From your photos that's my best guess.
