Here's a plume agate cab in a cinch mount I made for my mum, she loves it. The speckles on the surface are tiny moss inclusion pits, I think. It really looks nicer in person. I discovered the agate at it's source high above the Calapooia River in the mountains. I named it Calapooia micro-plume. It took a good bit of experimenting with cutting to get the best plume out of the rough: the plume occurs in a thin layer across the top of the agate...right where it's roughest... Riker mount box...from top left: Botswana agate, green moss agate, rutilated quartz, Botswana, Calapooia microplume(not a real cab, just a pretty piece), Applegate Creek herringbone agate (from outside Dallas, OR), petrified wood, and in the center: golden plume agate from the center of a Richardson's Ranch thunderegg. I have another box full of cabs, I'll have to take a new picture of it. Can't find the old one.

Here we go...just a random assortment of cabs and pieces I made for kicks. I like a little bit of everything. Included are: velvet obsidian, Biggs jasper, Noreena jasper, Calapooia micro-plume, Deschutes jasper, Skull Springs jasper, blue lace agate, ironstone, Calapooia purple agate and a few others.

Great stuff and welcome aboard! Man that Calapooia plume is sweeet!! You've got a lot of beauties there and they look great in the Riker box. I'm expecting a few of those tomorrow in the mail as a matter of fact.. I've got 4 stacked paper plates full of dusty cabs that are screaming for organization

OK, the redish one dead center of th ebox looks like jasper form Don Esch's Skull Creek claim. Right? Why yes, yes it is! Sorry, I thought it was Skull Springs. Don gave me a 4"x6"x12" block of the jasper and one thunderegg about the size of a basketball after I went with him to pick up a load of thundereggs and jasper from Larry Krib's house in Bend. I think we hauled home 5500 pounds that time on Don's double-axle flat trailer. Those are some huge thundereggs! Here, have a picture.

It may be Skull Springs, I think I heard both spring and creek.
I have not polished any yet. Does it take a shine easily? Is the large red vein commonly found in the center kinda weak?

Im curious about the "Don Esch's Skull Creek claim" too, I have purchased a fair amount of this material and it has been sold to me as: Butte Creek Jasper Spider Web Jasper Web'd Rhyolite
I have some piece that were formed in seams, but I also have a couple of full cuts that appear to be from nodules. They are circular with radiating circular patterns.

It may be Skull Springs, I think I heard both spring and creek. I have not polished any yet. Does it take a shine easily? Is the large red vein commonly found in the center kinda weak? As far as I can tell, it's all nice and hard and takes a GREAT polish. There may be weak spots but the piece I have didn't really present any problems. Some of the big thundereggs just have jasper in them. Others have hollows with bubbly chalcedony. Most have a nice sharp star shape inside. The thunderegg rinds resemble the jasper quite a bit. I was talking with Don about it for a while, he said he just has to look around out there near the claim and he can find all kinds of different materials...there's nobody else out there, no fences, just miles and miles of open range. The four-wheeler is going to get put to use finding new stuff at some point. Don has a single piece of that jasper that measures somewhere around 4'x6'x3'... !!! Larry cut it with a reciprocating saw a while back. Don bought the claim from Larry, BTW.
