Well I've gotten my grinder all set up in the basement of my new apartment and this is my first set of cabs. I want to apologize for the bright sun reflections on the cabs. I can't get my #$%#@ camera to take a decent picture of something small unless it is in full sunlight. These were taken through 14,000 grit and they area fairly shiny but I will probably take them up to 50,000 or 100,000.
I have no idea what this is so if you have an ID I'd appreciate it. I got it at the local rock shop in the $4 a pound slab bin.
This unknown is from stoner (thanks Ed). I really like the contrasting bands of red and gold.
Another one from stoner. Some sort of agate. The colors on this one are phenomenal.
I tried to ID this one before but never got a consensus. I'll call it silver lace obsidian for lack of an accurate ID.
Rhodonite. I like the combo of the greenish black and pink.
Noreena jasper from weeshan. Probably my favorite of the group and the only one to go into my private collection.
Mushroom jasper.
I got some mexican opal at a show last month. It wasn't great stuff but at 20 pieces for $7 it was cheap. The opal on this piece is completely transparent and you can see dendrites of the matrix below growing up into the opal. It doesn't have a lot of color unless the sun hits it at the right angle. This was more of an experiment than a usable cab.
Kyanite. Hard to cab since it has different hardnesses in different directions which makes it a bit chippy. Looks like it has lots of internal fractures too. I still like it though.
A small horse canyon green moss agate from stoner.
Bloodstone. This is more agaty than other bloodstone I've cabbed.
Chrysocola from desertdweller (thanks Jamie). Very intense color in this one.
Last but not least foxtail saginite that I got off of ebay. Shame you need magnification to really appreciate the pattern.
Thanks for looking.
