Since my wire wrapping skills are a bit rough and I soon wont have much time to work on them I wanted to come up with a decent looking glue-on bail. I'm not sure if these are there yet but I don't think they are too bad. The spiral gets glued to the back of the cab and the bail curves out in front of the cab. I'm sure this isn't a new idea but let me know what you think. Angled view.

I like them! Much nicer than the glue-on ones I bought.

What a cool idea. I have been looking for a simple bail option for my up coming shows. I gotta give this a try.

I REALLY like these. Especially the top two that are wrapped instead of just shaped. I make my own clasps as I feel it gives my jewelry a hand-crafted feel from beginning to end, so hand-made bails would be great as well. . And these bails would be great on cabs that you dont want to completely wrap as it gives people a less expensive option when buying jewelry.

Tony, your bails are wonderful and I think that people, when receiving a hand-crafted item likes knowing that everything is hand crafted. It just adds more to the stone.

That's a terrific idea, and they look great. There's a balance you have to find for yourself as to what you're willing to purchase and what you can make for yourself. I find things that I make for myself are actually the pieces that I prefer. As I said - these look terrific...and it's a great way to get rid of scrap wire.

Tony, I made your bail quickly and did not complete it, as it was not necessary to show you my suggestion and I took pics. I slightly flattened the spiral that is going to be attached to the cab. This will strengthen the spiral and also create more surface on the silver for the glue to grab hold of. I also flattened the rest of the wire. That is just personal preference. Leaving the bail round is just as nice. But the biggest thing would be to polish your bails before and after attaching them to your cabs. Unless you are going for a “rustic” look, a high polish on your silver can make all the difference. A Ball Peen hammer and steel block are not expensive and worth it if you like the idea and are going to make your own bails. I use the Sunshine cloth as it gives almost as beautiful a shine as a buffing wheel and better than the chemical polishers imho. It is just a suggestion. Oh, I also like the bail wrapped all the way around so when you do those, don't flatten the wire. If you want to try the Sunshine cloth, just pm your address to me and I'll send you one of mine to try out. Lori

Thanks all for the compliments. Lori that is a good idea, I'll give it a try. One thing I guess I should have pointed out is that these are not silver, they are just craft wire. I haven't gotten the nerve up to try silver yet.
