Hey, Looking to purchase my first tumbler to polish up some stones that we got at the Gem Mountain gem mine during our vacation this summer. I posted some info about that trip here if you want to read it. windowsxp-privacy.net/?id=12193338844We had a great time sorting thru our bucket of rocks and my oldest daughter has always been a rock hound. Since we have a bunch of stones leftover that we would love to do something with and maybe encourage my oldest child's interest in stones. I would appreciate some suggestions of what we need for the stones we have and what we can do with them. I know some of them could be tumbled and some not and what equipment we need to get started with. I am looking for a used tumbler on ebay and craigslist. However I do have vibratory tumbler I used to polish brass cases when I used to reload ammunition. I understand that vibratory tumblers are used mostly for final polish, or just certain stones etc. So if you have time please look over the pics and help me identify some of these and make suggestions of what I can or should do with these stones. Thanks Randy 1- Amethyst

Hey, Ace! I have a vibe that is of a type used for tumbling brass. A Lyman. It has a strong motor for working the weight of brass so it is great for rocks. I have worn out two bowls but the motor is fine in the near two years I've used it. And used it constantly. You will need extra bowls for your vibe as you need to change with each grit. I guess you could get by with two, if you clean them well with each change. One for 120/220 and 500, and one for pre polish and polish. Check the rated weight on your vibe so you don't over load it with rocks... and don't expect to ever use it to re load brass again. T
