I went rockhounding a couple of weeks ago at Salmon Creek in Washington. Got about 50 pounds of carnelian, jasper and petrified wood. Then I left my camera on the roof of the car when I drove away. So I don't have any pictures of the trip but here are some pictures of the material I'm cutting up. Carnelian Petrified wood Most of the wood here is boring brown with very little pattern. This piece is probably the best I found, still not great pattern but it's red with a carnelian filled crack.

The Carnelian look great and the Pet Wood on the right has great subtle color variation. I see an awesome cab coming from it. Not the least bit bored . Thanks for sharing

That is a bummer about your camera, did you remember in time to go back and try to recover it? Nice rocks you found, I hope that was some consolation, really pretty pet wood.

Being a Washintonian, I too lament the fact that our sort of abundent pet wood is mostly 'wood' colour. Lucky for us, the carnelian is both bright, and in a variety of shades. A fifty pound day at Salmon Creek is a very good haul, you did your self proud, especially at the end of the season when it has been so picked over. Sorry about your camera. Woody
