Hi, everyone!
On my way back from Belgrade to Bucharest, one week-end ago, I had two options: to take a classic road with heavy traffic, but maybe a little faster or to drive through the mountains, on a road not longer than the other one but a bit slower. I took the second option, as I didn't want a back of a truck to be my main view. It was a pleasure to drive on it, miles and miles being alone on the road and beautiful views that I'd like to share with you.
Firstly, I arrived at some ancient Roman ruins, the Capital of the ancient Roman province in this territory.
The amphitheater:
Some column capitels - ancient lapidary work
A cellar:
Then, a few kilometers away from those ancient ruins, I visited a church. It's an interesting one, being one of the first Christian churches here. It's built between 4th and 13th centuries, in more steps.
Another interesting fact is that the walls of the church contain stones that were clearly taken from the Roman ruins nearby (the ones I mentioned above)
After that, the road really begun to "climb" through the mountains.
This is a woodcutters' lodge:
That's the first time this season when I saw some snow:
A river going through the mountains:
And then, the same river going into a barrier lake. Now the lake is pretty empty (end of summer, not many rains) but still interesting scenery.
The last time when I saw this lake full was back in 2000, right before the Sidney Olympic games. We spent our vacation in the hotel you see below, together with the Olympic Kayak - Canoe team which was training on the lake for those Olympic Games.
I hope you enjoyed the pics,
Thanks for looking,
Adrian
