There are a couple of things I learned that I thought might be helpful to others. I also thought that others could add their useful tips.
1. Keep a damp cloth close by when wrapping and keep my fingers moist when working the wire. Wet fingers grip the cab and wire. The cab is less likely to fly out of your grip.
2. When filing the ends of the wire, put a match book cover between the cab or the other wire and the wire you are filing. This will help prevent accidental scratches. The matchbook cover has enougth width to endure the file hitting up against it.
3. Also use the matchbook tip when you have to curl the wire up against the cab.

Thanks for the damp cloth tip! I'm always dropping cabs while trying to wrap. Lucky I haven't broken any so far. Tony

Tony, it litteraly turns my stomach when a cab flys out of my fingers and drops. I have reached the point where I not only wet my finger but I also press the cloth to the cab.
