I mentyioned in another thread last week that I was experimenting with the vinyl emulsion used to coat tool handles as a repair material for rubber barrel parts. I just finished a week long rough grind after repairing a barrel lid liner that had perforated with this material (Plasti-Dip, available at home depot for about $6 for a pint can). I had coated the barrel lid liner with a couple of thick coats, carefully trimming away excess to ensure a tight seal when I inserted the lid for tumbling. The material adhered very well, and I can't tell it has worn at all agter a week of continuous operation! Bottom line, the stuff seems to work and could be used for cracked or perforated liner/barrel components. it's easy top touch uup or recoat the surfaces thus treated, too. It would be interesting to see if this stuff could be used to coat the interiotr of metal paint cans, glas jars, etc. to create cheap barrels. By the way, thanks for all the fedback about a vise for my trim saw. I got lazy and ordered one from Graves that should do the job. I thought I had a star Diamond trim saw but it doesn't have the mounting holes for the vise suggested. the label, if any, has been painted over so its brand is a mystery. Mark H.

Easy enough to try coating a barrel, just pour some into a drum, plastic bottle etc. and put it on the cradle and run it for a minute, remove it and dump unused liquid back into the container, put "drum" back on cradle w/o lid and run till it's cured. whatever got on the inside of the lid will be cured by that time too. Use a light color for the drum and it's will be easier to know when it's clean and you can see wear sooner, then just re-treat. I coated some drums with truck bed liner liquid in the same manor.
