Probably not the right place, but was not sure where to post my excitement. For I just completed setting up my lapidary work stand today. Have a AmeriTool lapidary machine and was wondering how I would set it up and on what. Wife and I where driving down the street one night and low and behold there was a old wood desk with a 'free' sign on it. A quick turn around, jumped out and grabbed my dirty little hands on that dude before someone else drove by and put it in back of the jeep. Took it home with high hopes. First objective, remove top. Top off, installed shelf on unit so AmeriTool would sit just below top of frame...Done. Reinstall modified top for shelf. Clean with some tough cleaning agent, let dry and move into work shop.
Grinder, light mounted. Grinding/Polishing pads set up on divider. Then slabs removed from storage.
Next step is to start cabbin. Yes..... Grin

Greetings, Mr 49er congratulations on the work station. I have used my Ameritool cabbing machine hard for three years. It was a gift from my sweetie and I have been very pleased with its performance and durability. I did find that the 180 grit metal bonded lap that came with it was very slow for grinding and almost useless for flat lapping hard stones like agate. I upgraded to a crystalite 180 grit Ripple disc it has a textured surface and is much more aggressive for roughing out those agate preforms. Kingsley North sells them for about 110 bucks. Happy cabbing. Bob.
