I was wonder if a barbecue motor is good enough for making my own tumbler? I have read other post on distance of shaft, etc. but is this motor to slow or too fast for a tumbler?
Thanks for looking and hope to hear back from anyone on this burning question

Howdy......I think it would be way too slow. Unless you put a really big pulley on it. I was thinking of using one for a homemade saw feed though......Bob

Aren't they usually 4-6 rpm aand you want 45ish so 10:1 ratio pulley set (better one's have pretty good torque).
HHhhmmmm.

Dr Joe, not sure on speed but should have plenty of torque to turn chicken, roast or turkey for hours on end.
Thanks for the reply. 49er

I went looking and average is 4-6 rpm's and 15-20 lbs of meat! I've never had one burn out, but I've never BBQ'd for 6 months at a time either So it could have possibilities for a small/cheap unit. If/when I find mine I guess I have another project ;D How about it, anybody got a small tumbler with a bad motor that wants to try it? Dr Joe .

The size of the barrel and it's configuration will determine the rpm's. Small round is faster then small multi-sided. Same goes for the bigger barrels but the bigger the barrel the slower you want it to turn. My 15lb tumblers turn at about 26-28 rpm's and are multi-sided. I "think" the 1-1/2 lb multi-sided barrels turn about 60 or 65? ? connrock
