Howdy folks, Dug these back when the diggings at the Dryhead were still open. Man, I wish I'd found more of them but each one I get into has new surprises. Thanks for looking.....Mel A few cut ones: These weird lighter colored matrix ones are often duds but this one wasn't too bad. And finally a couple of rough ones as found:

Mighty fine looking agates there Mel! I'd probably have to change my clothes if I found something like that. Curt

Thanks Curt! I've got to say that in all the rock digging I've done over the years, that was the toughest. The mine bulldozer had broken just before we got there. It was hot, humid, full blown electric storm going on and the zone for the nodules was under four to five feet of limestone with only an occasional nodule till you got clear to the bottom where each nodule had to be pried free with a crowbar and hammer. Of course I were younger then and even though it was a difficult and expensive dig ( $35 per day was a lot of money to me way back then) I had a ball.....Mel

Great Dryheads...........I have a friend that owns a guest ranch over in the Pryors. Been trying to get him enthused about these hard to get agates. Maybe next year..............I came up with a couple this year that are resting on the bench waiting for an impending oil change.............Bob

Very cool Bob! I was told there are many exposures in the Pryors that have Dryheads and even agates to be found loose in some of the canyons. Certainly is a big area to explore anyway. Love all those wild horses too. Anyway, good luck if you get to go hunt in there and make sure to post pics. I'm with Steve, Dryheads are definitely in my top ten and I love to look at them....Mel
