Still plugging away at this wrapping self torture I still seem to end up bent and kinked but at least I have gotten past trying to do binding wraps (Thanks to NancyF) ,and I get to work on bails now. Koroit in copper Koroit in copper Labradorite in copper I finally got one I kind of like, but I still can't seem to get those nice flowing swirls you guys and gals get with your bails. Please what is the secret? Koroit in gold fill

Your binding wraps look cleaner than mine, great work! I like the last two alot, that second one would look much better in gold.

You are doing great. I haven't done a swirl that goes 360 degrees yet so good for you. akansan gave me a tip on how to do it. Check out her latest wrap and look for my replies. I think it is a matter of giving the wire support and guidance as you gently bend it.
I really like the last one. It is very smooth looking.

I think you did a great job. I didn't think Labradorite would look good in copper but it does. Your wraps look so much better than mine do. Fran

Bent and kinky, I thought I was on my other favorite website, hahaha. Man, you make the finest opals and now you are a world class wrapper, I think they look great. Time to cough it up for real gold wire to wrap those fancy opals. The last one is awesome.

Man, you sure can inspire confidence folks. Many thanks! The first two are the same one. I forgot to say it was a double...so you have front and back! I'm colorblind so I may use some strange combinations on occasion... please bear with me Tony

Well if the first 2 are front and back shots, it is neat that you could wear them either way. My wraps have so much sharp wire sticking out, it could slash a person's neck. So kudos for making a 2-sided wrap.

Dude your doing great! Seems like your bail curves get smoother as I go down the page so you must be working it out. I use various sized steel punches to bend around, not that I've done anything nearly as fancy as these. I agree about the material, those fine koroits scream out for gold and silver.

These are looking great - I really like the labrodorite.
Another thing I've found is it's easier to mold longer wire than it is to mold short wires. When curving the wire, I work with the ends, not close to the curve (except when I'm supporting a loop like sitnwrap mentioned). With longer, dead-soft wire, you can get a gentle curve. Another thing - wire has a bit of spring-back. Sometimes you have to over-curve, knowing that it's going to bounce back a little.

Thanks again people!! I'm going to save these comments for those nights I'm ready to step off the chair with the wire wrapped around my neck Thanks for the hints, Akansan! So you work with the ends.... pulling while you shape with your thumb and forefinger of the other hand? Not using a dowel or something? YOur sweeps are so perfect! Her hint about the length of wire I think is of major importance. I did my first ones trying to conserve expensive wire and ended up having less than I needed at the end. I wasted more wire not having enough, when I trashed the whole piece, than I would have having a inch left over on each strand. Now I'm trying to leave extra at the end... I can always melt it down and cast with it ... so it isn't lost. Tony

Boy are those nice! I really am impressed with the very first one (front?). It is just such a beautiful stone with an equally fine wrap. I do like the copper, I don't think it takes focus off the stone as gold or especially silver might. Thanks for sharing. Don
