Adrian asked how I did mine so here are a few pictures Which should make it clear. Here is the stone I will use and a silver bead + some 18 gauge half hard ss wire. use the pliers to make a double loop. then bend the ends like this. slide on the silver bead. make a bend where it will start. wrap the stone tightly, holding with you finger and thumb, cross one end over the other and wrap it up to the bead. it's done! And here is the diamond hone used to shape the rock. It has four grit sizes, 200, 300, 400 and 600. That's it, hope you enjoyed it.

Wow! You made it look easy but I know it's not. That is really neat how you do it all by hand. I know I wouldn't have the patients to do it. Fran

You do a great job! I can't figure out how you use the hone to shape the stones. This may sound stupid but it looks kind of like a cheese grater to me. I'm not trying to be funny, I'd just like to know how you use it.

Thanks everyone for the comments!I first got the idea to put a groove in the stone from the pictures on this website: www.robsrockshop.com/ Then I put my own twist on it. I recommend you check out his stuff, very nice. CUL-Ann, yes I cut a groove around the stone for the wire, you can just see it in the first picture. I used a Dremel tool with a "v" edged diamond burr. The Dremel was clamped to make it stationary. I hold the stone with both hands and turn it on the stationary burr to make the groove. Start by cutting a shallow groove all the way around and then make more passes till it is the depth you want. Sitnwrap, To use the hone is simple. Start with a stone that has a shape not too far from the end shape if you can as this cuts down on the work somewhat. You do have to pick your battles. So, starting with the 200 grit side, put a little water on the hone, and wet the stone as well. Hold the stone with your fingertips and press down while vigorously rubbing it back and forth on the stationary file. Flats are a no-brainer, but to make a dome is harder, you have to constantly change the angle the stone hits the file at the same time you are rubbing it back and forth. Once the shape is obtained, then switch to the 300 grit and file out the 200 scratches. Then 400, 600 and you are ready to polish. I used some blue gunk on a felt wheel with the Dremel for most of the ones I did before I found CO. I am tumble polishing a bunch of stone now, but I did a few final polishes by hand as well. Just put some CO on a piece of rough leather, a bit of water to make a slurry, and keep rubbing the stone in it till it shines (20-30 minutes) I should mention that I was able to cut some rocks in half using little diamond saw blades for the Dremel then filed them. That helped a lot. I don't really have any pictures of this right now but I hope this explains it.
