Hello everyone, Here is another fish I made these days. The body is red jasper and the tail is heliotrope. Thank you for looking, Adrian

Sweeeet Adrian! Love the ideas that 'pop' into your head. I think you could use that trolling as a lure. I wouldn't do that...but you may be onto something. Steve

Those are so cool, Adrian! I love the combo wraps. Can you add on as many as you like? Can you go out side ways and make a pattern of wraps? I'm headed out to work on mine now, but they won't be as cool as that Tony

That is just beautiful! I love the "Groove Wrap". It allows for the focus to be on the stone, which by the way, those are awesome. Question: How does the wire wrap stay on the convave surface?

Oops. Hit enter by accident. I don't wire wrap ( but after seeing not only yours but others' here) I sure am thinking about it. Looks difficult. Anyhow thanks so much for showing your craft! Don

Thank you vert much to all of you.
Steve, HAHA, using it as a lure... I wouldn't do it, although I like fish very much.
Tony W, I don't see why one couldn't add as many stones as desired.
Don, the wire sits in the concave areas if propperly bent before. I gladly discovered this not too long ago, till then I only made cabs having convex curves.

Adrian, that is one awesome fish. The cabs on it are beautiful! I was searching the wrap section for tutes for a member and came across your first post of a groove wrap. This was back in Feb so you have a Groove wrap annivesary coming up in a couple of months. You've come a long way baby! (that's an old commercial slogan)

Hey, Adrian. I worked on some groovy wraps last night but am having trouble with the bail section...as usual. I'm not getting the bail wrap down tight enough to the stone, and the stone seems loose and apt to fall out. Are you wrapping up from the stone or down to the stone? YOu don't twist the groove wires at the top do you? It just seems the bail bindings are wanting to slip up. Any ideas..... since you've made your groovy wraps open source Tony

I remember the first Time I seen a "combo wrap" was Dee's I think... and thinking then it was going to be the next big thing.. and I'm still thinking that .. cuz you just took it to a whole new level Adrian.. Excellent Finish .. even tho I don't wrap.. (cuz I suck at it) I sure am tempted to try that Groove wrap too... Cuz I sure like that style..
*smiles*

Tony, I make the coil of the bail up from the stone (first loop close to the stone). Tighten strongly with a flat nose plier after every loop and it will hold pretty good. I find 3 loops are minimum, but usually I make 4 or even 5 of them. As for your question about twisting the groove wires at the top, I don't think I got it. If you are asking about the coil wire, I don't twist it, I hammer it and this way it becomes flat and harder. Lori, KD and Roxy - thank you Adrian

Adrian that is beautiful!
I remember when you first arrived on the board with your polished pet woods and now you've developed into a master craftsman.
I've thoroughly enjoyed watching your progression and I feel sure there are yet more ways you can stun us with your skill.
Keep up the great work - you help make this board number one!!!!

Thank you for your very nice words, Leslie Randy, I read in a cabbing book that a test for a well polished cab is to be able to read the text written on a bulb in the cab's reflection. This time I was able to catch it on my camera, which is usually stubborn and it seems it can't read Adrian

Thanks, Adrian! I guess as with all things.... practice makes perfect. So far my flats are grooved too shallow and my corners too deep I think your hint about pre bending the wire to fit concave parts will help, as I'm grooving finished cabs and most have a concave side or two.... a real test of confidence on my opals.
