Tile saws might not be small enough to make heart shaped cabachons. You would need a diamond wheel .018 dia., to make the internal cut. It can be done with a grinder however. Cut slowly and keep the wheel square. Draw the heart shape with an aluminum pencil and cut the profile.

thanks dwight. i think doc has given me some good advice but i'm too new to understand it . what does the diamond wheel go on? i searched a world of tools last night after reading doc's answer and only came up more confused. i found a .018 blade on rockshed but it didn't say what machine/tool it went with. my husband is offering me all kinds of tools, bless his heart, but i don't think they are the right ones. a flashlight, screwdriver, and hammer are about the limit of my tool box. help me out doc! where do i find this blade and what does it go on?

The diamond blade can be used on tile saws, however the kerf opening is wider than you might find comfortable. Go to Kingsleynorth.com and look up trim saws. Since you seem to be getting serious with lapidary, you would put to good use the Loretone combination unit. It comes with a diamond blade, two grinding wheels, and a polishing pad. I have one and I really like it.

perfect doc - that's next on my list now. i knew it would work to my advantage at christmas to tell my husband to REALLY not worry about getting me a present - i would get my own - of course surprising him with that 4-wheeler didn't hurt any either - how could he refuse me now! of course he didn't see all that stuff i was toting in last night after he went to bed - Lortone QT66, 20#'s of rock, extra barrels, grit, polish and more deliveries on the way. my what fun i'm having! i've got 3 loads in action now! from here on out standard answer re: cost is "less than a 4-wheeler". hmmmmmmm what will i say when i pass the cost of the 4-wheeler? he's always eyeballing something though....i'll just let him stay in the lead at all times! thxs, kim
