Hi all, I've been in lapidary since the middle '60's. I cut cabs , do faceting (learning as I cut) and general rock hounding. I live in a great state for collecting. I look forward to being on this great site. I'm also a motorcycle rider , Honda Valkyrie 1999 Interstate with 127,000 miles and still going strong. Thanks Nick

Howdy Nick, and welcome! Nice to see another Montanan here, I believe that makes at least three that I am aware of. Yes, we do live in a great state for rockhounds. The only drawback is the great distances one must travel between points of interest. You will find the members here to be a great source of shared knowledge and discoveries! And lots of great eye candy too. Bill

Hey Nick -- welcome to the board. Are you close to the montana agate beds? I would love to see some of these turned into a cab.
Hope you have a good time with everyone here.

Thanks for the welcome every body. I live in Billings, a couple hours from the agate collection area. Those are my favorite for cabbing, and I'll hopefully post some pic's. I really like this site, espc. the home building section. I do most of my cabbing now, too cold to ride. I have a 10" home built slab saw with a gravity feed that works well, and I keep it busy during the winter. I also do lost wax casting, and collect minerals. What a great hobby, proud to be a rock head!!!

Welcome Nick.....I think greyfingers is right. There are now at least 3 Montanans here. I am in western Montana (Lincoln). Maybe next summer We can get together! The 2009 National Gem and Mineral Show for the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies is in Billings next summer (July 30 - August 2, 2009). I will have a few of my specimens there and want to go get some agate!! Bob

Welcome Nick,
Man, why is that that I always like somewhere else? I love the Pacific Northwest, but I like so many other places too. Living in Billings, Montana is so cool. I'm sure you've been to Yellowstone once or twice. One of my bucket list things to do is to visit Yellowstone in the winter. To be only a couple of hours away from the agate beds is just great. Nice to have you here Nick.

Montana is one of my favorite places. It is the first place I went on a field trip. I hope someone reminds me of that show this summer. I would love to go to a show in Montana.

I'll post the dates for the show in Billings a couple weeks in advance. I'm still working on how to post pic's, this is a new system for me but I'm sure I can figure it out. Yes, I try to visit YNP a couple times a year on the bike, and in the spring after the Yellowstone is back to normal flow, I ride to the agate collecting site, called The Seven Sisters fishing access. I also find petrified wood in the same area. Thanks for the response every one. Nick

Welcome aboard Nick, from a neighbor in S.D. Since you live in Billings, you need to meet Bob mtmadman. He lives in Billings too. He's a heavy haul trucker and isn't home often, but he's home for Christmas. If I see him on FB, I'll send him over to say Hi.

Hi Nick. Welcome to RTH. I'm from Idaho. We're a ways away from Billings, but we love rock shows.
