Howdy folks, Well, had a little spare time so I went out for a couple of hours more on the old cretaceous reef. Blue Norther coming in so I had to give up because my hands were getting too darn cold to hold the tools. Anyway, found a few more specimens and here are a few pics. Thanks for looking....Mel More gastropods: Long one is Anchura sp. also another Tylosoma or two and the squat ones are probably Gyrodes sp. The clams: The flat ones are probably Cyprimeria sp. Also so are Tapes sp. The bigger ones that are heart shaped are sometimes called Texas hearts or deer heart clams; Protocardia sp and probably some Callocardia sp. Lots of these clam plates there. these show the difference between endocasts ( steinkerns) where the shell served as a mold and melted away leaving a limestone casting and an exocast which is the impression left by the shell exterior in the sediment. Closer shot showing steinkerns on the left and exocast on the right: Oysters: Mostly Texigryphea and maybe Ceratostreon sp.
